A company-wide approach to sustainability and accountability for our carbon footprint is very important to Evastore. Decisions we make and the actions we take now will impact the planet and the environment we hand over to future generations, so we have to make sure that we’re making a positive contribution to fighting climate change and promoting sustainability.

Some of the steps that we’re already taking include:

Renewable energy powering our warehouse

We’ve had a solar PV installation in our warehouse, meaning that a large proportion of our energy use is now powered by sunshine, which has greatly impacted the amount of electricity we need from the grid. Our temperature and humidity-consistent warehouse conditions are the product of the building construction, which follows the guidelines of BS4971 (Conservation & Care of Archive and Library Collections) and does not need power.

Our local approach to recycling shredded paper waste

Recycling shredded paper can be problematic, as it takes specialist equipment and processes to be carried out properly. This is why many waste management providers do not offer this service alongside other recycling measures. At EvaStore, we have partnered with paper mills which do have the capability to recycle shredded paper effectively and are local to our warehouse location so that not only can we offer a confidential waste removal service, we can ensure that the paper is 100% recycled too. Keeping things local is beneficial to the local economy, but it also means that the miles we have to transport shredded paper waste are minimal, helping to reduce vehicle emissions alongside the other environmental benefits.

Chlorine-free paper processing

Traditionally, chlorine has been used widely in the paper recycling and manufacturing process as a bleaching agent to help break down the pulp. However, this has negative environmental considerations, including the process creating several by-products, such as dioxins, which are toxic and have a harmful effect on the environment when disposed of.

The paper mills we use to recycle shredded paper use chlorine-free methods in their manufacturing processes, which means that making the new paper products has a much lower impact on the environment. Instead of the harsh chemical approach, our partners use recycled pulp production methods with multiple stages of cleaning using biodegradable cleaning solutions to create high-quality paper products that don’t rely on harmful additives.
